I began this journey with a vision to take our city forward. That vision has evolved and expanded but it has not changed. The task and challenges have been great but not impossible. What lies ahead of us is great if we only continue to hold on, believe in ourselves and keep working.

About Fred
Fred Esco Jr. was born September 13, 1954 in Canton, Mississippi, to parents, Fred Lee Esco, and Ida M. Hudson both of Canton. Fred is the third born of siblings. He has five sisters and one brother. His father, now deceased, worked as a supervisor for the American Tent Company and was self-employed as a barber, and his mother worked at the Mississippi Industry for the Blind as Production Supervisor.
Fred is a graduate of the Canton Public School system, completing high school in 1972. He went on to graduate from Mississippi Valley State University with a degree in Business Administration and Accounting, then sensing a desire to gain a more complete understanding of Christianity, Fred successfully earned a degree from Mississippi Baptist Seminary.
Fred began his political career early. By the age of twenty four, not only was he a successful businessman, but had also been elected as Alderman for Ward 5 of the City of Canton. He served faithfully achieving many prestigious accomplishments for eighteen and one half years in this position.
Prior to being elected Mayor for the City of Canton, Mississippi, Fred was CEO of Esco's Insurance Company, a very successful entity for over 24 years.His Community involvements are numerous, including participation and support of the local Boys & Girls Club, and the Hispanic Outreach of Canton, program. Memberships include, Mason, Elks and the NAACP. He fondly calls Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church his home, where Rev. W.L. Johnson is Pastor.
Fred married the lovely Fleta M. Jones in 1982. He is the proud father of 5 children, four girls and one son.
On October 22, 2002, Fred became the 21st mayor of the City of Canton and ade history by becoming the first African-American male to be elected as Mayor. He is a native son, well respected in his community and his passion, commitment and dedication to city of Canton is unmatched. As Mayor, he has agreat vision for what Canton will look like in the very near future, and has implemented plans to make that vision a reality. The future is indeed bright for Mayor Esco and the City of Canton.
